RETURNING WILDLIFE – The Northern Elephant Seal

Northern elephant seals were almost driven to extinction during the nineteenth century when they were hunted for their valuable oil. Once they were given protection early in the twentieth century they began to recover. Today, they are found in healthy numbers once again along the Pacific Coast of North America.
